'The Walking Dead' Seasons: Best to Worst (*SPOILER ALERT*)

Since October of 2010 AMC's zombie drama has become the most popular show on television. Now with season five all wrapped up, I thought it'd be a good time to look back and give my personal ranking of all five seasons

5. Season 3

I don't truly think that any season of 'The Walking Dead' sucks, but in my opinion Season 3 gets far more love than it deserves. While it introduced comic book favorites like the Governor and Michonne, neither of them were utilized all that well. In fact, Michonne's reserved distrustful nature towards Rick is extremely annoying, and it took me a long time to like her.

Best Episode: Made to Suffer

Michonne takes out the Governor's eye, a battle brews between our heroes and the citizens of Woodbury and Daryl is reunited with his brother...in a gladiator-style death ring. Awesome!

Worst Episode: Prey

Andrea runs in the woods for a little bit and eventually the Governor catches up with her. That's it. LAME!

4. Season 4

While it isn't flawless, 'The Walking Dead's fourth season held my interest far longer than its predecessor. Plus, the idea of a Cronenberg-ian airborne virus along with some intense action sequences make for a very engaging and unpredictable television experience.

Best Episode: Indifference

A smart episode focusing on Rick and Carol, ending with our lead leaving Carol behind due to her recent erratic behavior. Heavy stuff.

Worst Episode: Still

An episode focusing on Daryl Dixon?
YAY!
An episode focusing on Daryl Dixon...and Beth?
BOOOOOOOO!!!!
A complete snooze-fest that offers nothing. Plus, Beth was never EVER an interesting character.

3. Season 2

Many fans of the series look at Season two like the red-headed stepchild of the series, which absolutely ridiculous. Season two may suffer a bit from its lack of change in setting, however it features some of the show's best writing and most heart-wrenching death sequences. Plus, if you're a fan of George Romero's 1968 'Night of the Living Dead' like I am, you probably found the farm setting pretty cool.

Best Episode: 18 Miles Out
Rick and Shane drive a prisoner out to determine his fate only to begin a mental and physical brawl between the themselves. An episode that balances intimacy and chaos wonderfully.

Worst Episode: Secrets
A very hard one to choose in this particular season, but this is the only episode that is somewhat expendable in the grand scheme of things. Also, it introduces a sexual relationship between Shane and Andrea that's never mentioned again.

2. Season 5

'The Walking Dead's latest season barely had a dull moment. Every episode felt like a surprise, which is refreshing for a show that's somewhat predictable at times. It also puts the focus fully back on Rick Grimes which is something the previous seasons were lenient about.

Best Episode: Remember
This episode puts our band of heroes in a new setting, giving them new motivations. It also allows Rick Grimes (now cleanly shaven) to pull out a sheriff outfit for the first time since season two. So cool!

Worst Episode: Slabtown

An episode focusing on everyone's favorite(?), Beth. She walks around a hospital with evil cops. About as exciting as it sounds.

1. Season 1

In the end, 'The Walking Dead's first six-episode run is its best. It introduces likable characters, it fills the screen with constant zombie mayhem and gives a great eight-hour introduction America's most popular drama. TV storytelling at its finest.

Best Episode: Guts
In the show's second episode, Rick and Glenn cover themselves in Walker intestines to get from one end of the city to the next, completely incognito. Things don't quite go as planned as you can expect. Great cinematography, pace and a frightening performance from Michael Rooker as Merle Dixon.

Worst Episode: TS-19

The group finds themselves sheltered by the high tech walls of the CDC with scientist Edward Jenner in the season finale. An aesthetically intriguing episode, but the shelter explodes by the episode's end, causing the audience to wonder what this pit stop was even for.
